Lifeboat crews have helped ensure the safety of a sailor and their boat after it sank off the West Norfolk coast.
The Wells Lifeboat crew were scrambled after the coastguards got a distress call from a sailor close to the Brancaster Golf Club.
The skipper managed to swim ashore and used an emergency contact phone to say he was OK but his 16ft speed boat was under water.
Wells Lifeboat met him and took him to the Brancaster Staithe slipway where he was met by a Coastguard team.
With his help, they also managed to find the boat and towed it to shore so that it was not a danger to other shipping.
Lifeboat Operations Manager, Chris Hardy, said ‘The crew all acted with great speed and diligence on hearing there was a man in the water. Thankfully the emergency phone at Brancaster Golf Club meant that the skipper could quickly make the call to the Coastguard to make known he was safe. This prevented unnecessary searching and a sense of relief that all was well. I am very proud of both lifeboat crews, as they demonstrated superb skill and seamanship today; it is what we train for’.
