Officials say Government approval for a new document helps bring plans for a new hospital in West Norfolk closer.
The paperwork called a Strategic Outline Case sets out why a new hospital is needed and how it will be delivered, and has been approved by Government ministers.
The hospital says it will also be a priority to be replaced because of the Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete or RAAC which was used in its original construction.
Jo Segasby, Chair of the Group New Hospital Programme Board, said: “We are extremely pleased that the QEH Strategic Outline Case has been approved at the highest level – It gives us the green light to progress further our ambitious plans.
“The new QEH will be among the most modern and digitally advanced hospitals in Europe, designed to deliver outstanding care for our communities for decades to come.”
The Scheme will now move to the next stage which is approval of the detailed design and costing plan for the new build. The New QEH is expected to open to patients in 2032.
Moving the hospital helipad and work on a new multi-storey car park are expected to start next year.
