Students at a West Norfolk school have collected a record-breaking amount of items for a food bank.
The pupils at Smithdon High School in Hunstanton will hand over all the good they have gathered to the Trussell Trust-supported facility.
They also beat a previous collection of 241kg of goods.
The students came up with lots of innovative ways to boost donation including holding a Tin Can Castle competition to encourage people to bring in goods, and a Reverse Advent Calendar with the food banks most needed items behind each window.
School librarian Marie Taylor, who organised the collection, said: “I am so proud of the kindness and generosity shown by the staff, our students and their families who have donated and supported this important cause.”
Smithdon head of school Amanda Gibbins handed over the donations with head girl Caitlin and senior ambassador Oliver.
She said: ““I am so proud of how much the Smithdon High School community has been able to collect.
“At this time of year when financial pressure is on families to a greater extent, here at Smithdon we feel it is important to try to help our local community – and teach the students to understand the same.”
