Free health station launched at King’s Lynn Library

People in King’s Lynn can now take a free health check in just a few minutes, with a new digital health station launched at the town’s library.

The self-service station, provided by Norfolk County Council’s Public Health team, allows people to check a range of key health indicators without an appointment.

In less than five minutes, users can check their blood pressure, heart rate, body mass index (BMI), alcohol consumption, physical activity levels and heart age.

Results are provided instantly, along with personalised advice and signposts to local support services.

The King’s Lynn station follows strong public engagement with an earlier pilot in the town and is part of a wider rollout of the technology by Norfolk County Council.

Two mobile health stations are also being introduced, with one available for short-term use at libraries, community organisations, workplaces and events. A second mobile unit, funded by the West Place Board, will be used in workplaces across West Norfolk.

To mark the launch, Norfolk County Council held an event at King’s Lynn Library, where residents could try the technology and have a free mini health check.

Representatives from SiSU Health, the provider of the stations, were available to explain how the technology works. Visitors could also find out about health and wellbeing support available through Norfolk libraries, including help accessing online health services, wellbeing resources and digital skills support.

Councillor Scott Hussey, Norfolk County Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Public Health, encouraged people to make use of the new facility.

“We’re rolling out more of these health stations across Norfolk and I’d really encourage people to use them if they see them in their local area,” he said.

“In just a few minutes you’ll get a mini health check – blood pressure, heart health and body composition.”

Cllr Hussey said knowing your blood pressure was particularly important and that the stations could help residents understand potential health risks at an earlier stage.

The health stations are fully automated and can be used independently, with no appointment required.

People aged 16 and over are encouraged to use the free service at King’s Lynn Library and take the opportunity to check their health.
