Hughes to Close Hunstanton and Wisbech Stores as 60 Jobs Put at Risk

Electrical retailer Hughes is set to close eight stores this Saturday, with branches in Hunstanton and Wisbech among those affected.

The company says rising operating costs, changing consumer habits and the continued growth of online shopping have led to the decision to reduce its high street presence.

Around 35 shop-based employees have been told their jobs are at risk as a result of the closures, while a further 25 positions could be affected at the company’s delivery depot in Norwich.

The closures represent another setback for town centre retailing, with Hughes having been a familiar presence on high streets across East Anglia for many years.

Despite the changes, the company has confirmed that its King’s Lynn store will remain open.

Hughes says the restructuring is intended to help secure the long-term future of the business as it adapts to changing shopping patterns and increasing pressure on traditional retailers.
