North West Norfolk MP James Wild has raised more than £5,500 for the 8:56 Foundation after completing the London Marathon.
Wild finished Sunday’s race in 3 hours, 54 minutes and 40 seconds, marking his sixth marathon, despite previously saying he would not take part again.
The 8:56 Foundation was set up in memory of Lee Calton and focuses on supporting men’s mental health across Norfolk. It provides sport-based programmes, wellbeing initiatives and access to talking therapy, helping men seek support before reaching crisis point.
Money raised from the run will go directly towards these services, with the charity noting that £35 can fund a therapy session for someone in need.
Speaking after the race, Wild said running plays an important role in his own wellbeing and that the cause was deeply personal, particularly after losing a friend to suicide.
Abbie Panks, a trustee of the foundation, thanked him for his efforts, saying the funds will help reach more men with vital support.
This latest fundraiser adds to more than £14,000 Wild has raised in previous marathons for a range of local charities, including the Purfleet Trust and West Norfolk Autism Group.
