New figures show opinion is divided over plans to reorganise local government in Norfolk.
Data from the consultation reveals that 42 per cent of respondents backed the Government’s preferred three-council model, while a slightly higher 44 per cent supported the idea of a single authority covering the whole county.
Despite this, the three-council structure appeared to gain stronger backing among so-called “named consultees”, including councils, public bodies and businesses.
The findings were published nearly a month after ministers confirmed plans to split Norfolk into three new authorities as part of wider local government reform.
The proposals would replace the current county and district council system with larger unitary authorities, with the government arguing the changes will streamline services and improve efficiency.
However, the consultation results highlight that public opinion remains mixed as the reorganisation moves forward.
