Experts are being asked to come up with a masterplan for the redevelopment of part of King’s Lynn.
Designers and planners from the company BDP have been asked to come up with future ideas for the Southgates area to think of ways to make the South Gate itself stand out and see if areas around it can be developed.
It also has to fit in with regeneration plans already announced for King’s Lynn, with the first ideas to be made public in the Spring.
Tessa O’ Neill, Town Planning Director at BDP, explains: “Through smart urban planning and analysis of the surrounding infrastructure, land and property and subsequent design opportunities, we aim to make the area more attractive and welcoming to visitors and stimulate local economic growth in the town centre.
The company says it will look at things like the roads and pavements, landscaping, walking and cycling routes, and the historic importance of the South Gate.
Richard Blunt, the borough councillor responsible for development and regeneration, said: “There is a delicate balance to be achieved in developing a plan for this site and surrounding area. Ensuring that its heritage is preserved, and its use and setting is enhanced, is paramount while making sure we have suitable, sustainable access into the town. The development of this masterplan is very exciting and throughout the process stake
