Age, weather, vandalism, use as ‘play equipment’, fire and health and safety have finally done for the great whale that has been the iconic symbol of Harding’s Pits for the past seven years. Beaten and battered he has had to be dismantled, only his lower half remains and no longer is he the landmark on the skyline he once was. But the Harding’s Pits Community Association (HPCA) is determined somehow to find him a younger, metal brother to take his place.
