King’s Lynn Stars made a winning start to their Speedway Premiership season with a thrilling 49-41 victory over Sheffield Tigers at the Adrian Flux Arena.
The PSH Environmental Stars were pushed all the way to a last-heat decider, but a crucial 5-1 in Heat 15 from Max Fricke and skipper Chris Harris sealed the win.
Fricke dominated the final race from the start, while Harris produced one of the standout moments of the night—storming from fourth to second with a trademark overtaking move past both Holder brothers.
Both Fricke and Harris scored 12 points, but the real difference came from the reserve pairing. Youngsters Cooper Rushen and Jody Scott delivered an outstanding combined total of 17 (paid 20), stepping up in the absence of the injured Paco Castagna.
The Stars built an early lead with strong team riding, including multiple 5-1s, but Sheffield fought back repeatedly to keep the contest alive. Heading into the final races, the gap had narrowed to just two points.
A composed ride from Rushen in Heat 14 helped maintain the advantage, setting up the decisive final race where Lynn delivered under pressure.
Manager Rob Lyon praised the team’s resilience and the impact of the younger riders, calling it a “great result” to start the league campaign.
With two league points secured, King’s Lynn now turn their attention to a local derby trip to Ipswich on Bank Holiday Monday.
