A Norfolk company have given a New Year gift to around 100 homeless people by creating a day to remember.
The Hungry Hog Roast Company arranged a special lunch featuring one of their renowned hog roasts plus sausages, jacket potatoes, salads and desserts at the Duke’s Head Hotel in King’s Lynn.
With the help of the venue and support from charity the Purfleet Trust, Hungry Hog Roast Company manager director Derrick Holmes said: “I decided as a businessman, I wanted to give something back to the town. I thought about lots of different charities and felt the homeless can get forgotten at this time of year.
“They do get remembered at Christmas but at this time of year when the weather is cold and damp, I thought it was an ideal time to do it.”
As well as a meal, the venue was decorated, there was a disco, and the chance for guests to get help and advice from a hairdresser and chiropodist.
Derrick said the event would definitely not be a one-off. “It has been an absolute pleasure to organise and everyone was so appreciative. I hope they thoroughly enjoy the day and we want to do this on the first Monday in February every year.”
