A festival and new award have helped mark World Book Day at a West Norfolk school
Author visits, poetry sessions, and writing competitions made up the very first week of literary events at Smithdon High in Hunstanton to mark the annual event.
Teachers also dressed up as various characters from books, and the school plans to hold a similar festival every year.
It has also launched the Smithdon Shadowers scheme for Year 8 and 9 students which will see them read and review six shortlisted books, see videos from the authors and take part in competitions.
Amanda Wright, head of English at Smithdon High School, said: “We are proud of reading culture at Smithdon, and we always celebrate World Book Day.
“This year we decided to go big, taking advantage of being able to bring guests in to share and discuss the written word.
“We want to inspire a love of literacy in our students. We want students to feel empowered when they pick up a book or a pen, they are the content creators.”
