Wisbech Lions Club to Close After 53 Years of Community Fundraising

The Wisbech Lions Club has announced it will be closing after more than five decades of service to the community.

Formed in 1972, the club has donated an average of £10,000 each year back into Wisbech, supporting local families, schools and community initiatives. Over the years, members have organised popular fundraising activities including Christmas sleigh runs, tombolas and community games, with funds raised benefiting numerous local causes, including West Walton Primary School.

Club members have covered their own membership costs to ensure that all money collected went directly back into the town. However, with members growing older, some experiencing ill health and others relocating, the difficult decision has been made to close the club.

Before formally winding down, the Lions plan to sell equipment including their sleigh and fundraising games, with proceeds set to be donated back into the community.

The club has expressed its gratitude to the many volunteers, supporters, local businesses and partner organisations who have supported its work over the past 53 years, leaving what it describes as a lasting legacy in Wisbech.
