All aboard for the Great British Spring Clean!

Members of Harding’s Pits Community Association are gearing up for their new year of management workdays at the popular South Lynn green space.

Rob Archer, HPCA chairman, said ‘Our volunteer team generally meet once a month on a Saturday morning to undertake management work at the site. Our first regular date of the year is in March when we coincide with the ‘Keep Britian Tidy’ national litter picking event – ‘The Great British Spring Clean’.

‘This year it will be on Saturday March 23rd, starting at 9:30am. Any local residents are free to come and join us and we will give you gloves, bags and picker sticks. At this time of year it is a great chance to do a ‘deep clean’ of the site before the undergrowth starts growing.’

In previous years the group have cleared up to 50 sacks of litter from the setting. Vice chairman Rick Morrish said ‘We try to sort out clean glass and cans into separate sacks. The County Council recycling centre at Costessy can recover materials like these for commercial sale. Recycled aluminium is presently worth £1000/tonne! That helps to pay for Norfolk’s waste services!’

‘On the 23rd meet at our container at the north-west corner of Winfarthing Play Fields. We hope new volunteers will become regular attendees. All of our workdays are published on the website.’

The event is finished.
