A new appeal has been launched to improve the experience of those living with dementia in West Norfolk.
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn wants to raise £40,000 to buy equipment and activities to help patients with the condition.
This will be spent on updating its RITA (Reminiscence Interactive Therapy and Activities) decides which are large touch screens that patients can listen to music and poetry on, and take part in interactive games which trigger conversations and memories to improve their health and wellbeing.
Some of the money will also be spent on activity packs of games, reminiscence cards and jigsaw puzzles, and 25 dementia-friendly clocks for each bay of the hospital’s 18 wards giving easy access to the day, date and time.
Here at Radio West Norfolk, we are supporting the appeal along with fellow media partner Your Local Paper and corporate sponsor Kenneth Bush Solicitors.

Dr James Casson, Clinical Director for Integrated Care of the Older Person at QEH said: “A hospital stay can feel daunting at the best of times, but for our patients living with dementia there are additional challenges. We want every one of our patients to have the best possible experience at QEH and I’m really pleased that our latest Appeal will support us to strengthen our services for patients living with dementia.
“The equipment and activities we are hoping to purchase will make a positive difference to the wellbeing of our patients, which in turn improves physical health outcomes too.
